Crime Stopper Number Change Being Considered

File Image

Tulsa has long had a no-snitch mentality in its minority communities. There is a fear of retaliation for being a police informant. The head of Tulsa’s Citizens Crime Commission thinks she may have found part of the problem.

Carol Bush wonders if part of the problem is the phone number to the non-police tip line. The number is 918-596-COPS. Bush fears people have the mistaken impression that they are calling police rather than the independent citizen staffed Crime Stoppers Hotline.

She says they are considering changing the phone number to something else that might be more reassuring that their tips will remain confidential.
