OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) — The Muscogee (Creek) Nation has ousted Principal Chief George Tiger in favor of a former director of Veteran's Administration centers.
Unofficial returns show James Floyd led Tiger by a 2,964-1,820 margin Saturday night.
The Tulsa World reports that Tiger issued a statement wishing Floyd "the very best" and saying his office will assist in the transition as Floyd takes office. Floyd could not be reached for comment.
Tiger remained in office despite a no-confidence vote in March by the nation's National Council and a failed petition effort to remove him from office. Both came after it was revealed Tiger signed a contract in 2009 with a developer of a casino project that would've competed with a Creek Nation casino.
Tiger said he did nothing wrong because he signed the contract before becoming chief.
