Lawmakers to Tap Rainy Day Fund

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Governor Mary Fallin is calling on Oklahoma lawmakers to take $72 million from the state's constitutional reserve fund to help ease budget cuts this year for public schools and the overcrowded prison system. Fallin on Monday proposed using $51 million for public schools and $21 million for the Department of Corrections for the remainder of the fiscal year. The Senate's chief negotiator on the budget, Clark Jolley, says Senate Republicans support the idea.
