Commissioners Seeking New Auditor for Tulsa County Authorities

Tulsa County

Tulsa County Commissioners are on the hunt for a new firm to audit certain authorities.

A request for proposals could go out this month for audits of the criminal justice and industrial authorities. The firm Stanfield & O’Dell has performed those audits the past several years. County Commissioner John Smaligo said there’s nothing wrong with that.

"But, quite frankly, the idea of having a different group, a different set of eyes coming in can be beneficial, and, most importantly, what we have to look out for is making sure that we're getting the best product at the lowest price we can," Smaligo said.

Commissioner Ron Peters presented the idea at a Board of County Commissioners management conference Monday. He said changing auditors is just doing due diligence.

"I have nothing against Stanfield & O'Dell. I think they've done a wonderful job," Peters said. "In fact, a lot of auditors now don't even want to do this kind of work, so it will be interesting to see what we get from the RFP."

The Vision Authority is not included because it doesn’t directly handle funding. Bodies like the fairgrounds authority perform their own audits.
