Oklahoma Finance Secretary Preston Doerflinger is now the target of the group that successfully petitioned for a grand jury investigation of former Tulsa County Sheriff Stanley Glanz.
We The People Oklahoma’s Marq Lewis said there’s been no accountability amid two revenue failures and subsequent cuts, and the organization questions Doerflinger’s stance on education.
"We look at education, and that's part of the group that's facing a lot of the cuts," Lewis said. "And with all the cuts they've been facing, he went out to try to lobby for voucher programs."
We The People Oklahoma also pointed to Doerflinger's past brushes with the law, including an arrest for physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
"And it's just time for, I believe, our governor, in dealing with all our finances, to do the right thing and just go ahead and terminate his employment or ask him to leave and put someone in there who is qualified," Lewis said.
Doerflinger was traveling Monday afternoon and was not available for an interview but told other news outlets if given the chance he would temper comments about education funding he made last week.
Unlike with Glanz, We The People Oklahoma doesn't have a legal avenue to remove Doerflinger from office.
