The Oklahoma Home and Community Based Service Council is lobbying state lawmakers today in Oklahoma City. The group is trying to head off additional funding cuts to the Advantage Program. That program provides in home care to frail and elderly.
Tulsa’s Steve Goforth is delivering letters to lawmakers from participants. He says many of the letters tell lawmakers how individuals would be in nursing homes if not for the Advantage Program.
Goforth says nursing homes would cost three-times as much as in home health care. That would wind-up costing the state more than what they are now paying for the Advantage Program.
In addition, Goforth says jobs are on the line, because businesses supplying the service would have to lay-off workers or close altogether.
