Storm Damage south of Tahlequah

Cherokee County Emergency Management

Strong thunderstorms packing high winds and heavy rain caused extensive damage in portions of Cherokee County. The storms hit overnight at the Snake Creek Marina on Lake Tenkiller. The marina docks sustained heavy damage with roofs ripped-off.

The area received between five and eight inches of rain. There were some swift water rescues because of the rapidly rising water.

More damage was reported south of the area near Talihina. Trees were uprooted and power poles snapped by high winds.
