Tulsa Health Department Developing Event Cancellation Guidelines

THD

The Tulsa Health Department is developing guidance for local entities on when to cancel events because of the risk of COVID-19.

The guidelines are being developed in partnership with the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the Oklahoma City-County Health Department.

"It’s going to be based on the penetration of coronavirus in our community, but it’s draft form right now. We’ve got several other people, like our county emergency manager — we want some other eyes on it," said Tulsa Health Department Executive Director Dr. Bruce Dart.

Mayor G.T. Bynum said last week there was likely not a need to cancel public events until there's community spread of COVID-19. There are now three cases in Oklahoma, but none are from person-to-person transmission.

Several pro sports leagues have announced they are suspending their seasons, including the NBA and the USL, where FC Tulsa plays. The Big 12 and American Athletic Conference canceled their basketball tournaments.

OSSAA decided Thursday afternoon to postpone the state basketball tournament and music competition.

The BOK Center postponed Thursday night's KISS concert.
