Oklahoma Nears 2,900 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases, 170 Now Dead

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 87 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the state's total to 2,894.

Another six deaths were reported, with two in the past day, bringing the state's total to 170. All six deaths reported Wednesday were adults age 65 or older.

The average age of Oklahomans who have died from COVID-19 is nearly 74 years old.

Since the outbreak began, 608 people have been hospitalized.

According to the most recent state figures, 6.3% of tests are coming back positive. That's less than the national rate of 18.4% and exceeds a benchmark that 10% of tests or fewer should come back positive.

Oklahoma is among the four worst states, however, when it comes to testing capacity.
