5 Bixby Teachers in Quarantine, 1 Positive for COVID as Some Students Return

Google Street View

Bixby Public Schools started the school year on Monday with only half its students in buildings at a time — and with half a dozen teachers out due to the coronavirus.

As first reported by the Tulsa World, one sixth-grade teacher at North Intermediate School tested positive for COVID-19 after exhibiting mild symptoms and is isolating at home. Five other teachers who were in close contact with them are now in quarantine.

Substitutes are being placed in each classroom, and the teachers in quarantine will interact with their students through video conferencing.

Bixby has divided its students into cohorts based on the first letter of their last names. One cohort will attend school this week while the other stays home. Next week, they’ll switch, then Bixby will go to entirely distance learning for a week before deciding how to handle the rest of the fall.
