TPD Arrests Man They Say Killed 70-Year-Old Stepfather And Tried To Stage A Crime Scene

Tulsa police arrested a man on Monday they say killed his 70-year-old stepfather, then hid the body while he tried to stage a crime scene.

Police received a report of a dead body at a house near 21st and Sheridan around 1:30 a.m. Monday and found Edward Johnson lying in the front yard. Johnson had been severely beaten, and police found a garden hoe near his body.

Police say Johnson’s stepson, 28-year-old Somsai Hakchareun, first said he found Johnson in the yard and told his mother, who called 911, but admitted to them in an interview later he got into an argument with Johnson and killed him during the day.

Police say Hakchareun told them he hid Johnson’s body and staged the scene in the front yard. Hakchareun is in the Tulsa County Jail.

It's the city's 12th homicide of 2021.
