The Brightmusic Society of Oklahoma Schubert and Friends on Performance Oklahoma

Featured in the second of four programs devoted to the Society's Festival are performances of the Piano Sonata No. 13 in A Major, D664, and the Piano Trio No. 2 in E-flat Major, D929 by Franz Schubert and the Grand Duo Concertante in E-flat Major for Clarinet and Piano, Op 48 by Carl Maria von Weber.  Composed during his summer in the Austrian Alps, the Piano Sonata No. 13  is one of Franz Schubert's most ebullient and graceful compositions and shows us Schubert's own cantabile style of playing.  Pianist Amy I-Lin Cheng performs the work, in the opening performance of the Festival.

One of Carl Maria von Weber's remarkable contributions to the clarinet repertoire, the virtuosicGrand Duo Concertante was Weber’s last completed work for the clarinet and is striking in that it presents both players as equal partners in scoring and performance of the two virtuoso solo parts.  Featured in this performance is guest clarinetist David Shifrin and pianist Amy I-Lin Cheng.

Robert Schumann considered the E-flat Piano Trio of Franz Schubert a masterpiece equal to Beethoven’s own Ghost and Archduke trios.   One of Schubert’s last works, and marked equally by ebullience and melancholia this performance features violinist Hal Grossman, cellist Jonathan Ruck and pianist Amy I-Lin Cheng.

And, to round out the second hour, we'll hear excerpts from a recital offered on Tuesday, February 5th, as part of the University of Central Oklahoma's Faculty Artist Concert Series this past season.  Baritone Robert Glaubitz and pianist Sallie Pollack perform To Julia, Op 8 by Roger Quilter and There Were Two Swans and Sing to My Heart a Song by the American neoromantic Vittorio Giannini.

Listen this Saturday evening at 8:00 on Classical 88.7-1.
