TPD Investigating Midtown 'Rolling Gun Battle' Where Man Was Shot 10 Times

Some midtown Tulsa residents heard the sounds of a gun battle late Sunday night.

Tulsa Police said officers found a large crowd at the 21st Street and Yale Avenue Whataburger around 11:20 p.m., and once they got to the middle of the gathering, they found a 19-year-old man inside a black Dodge Challenger riddled with bullet holes who had been shot 10 times, including in the neck.

Ofc. Danny Bean said witnesses told officers there was an altercation during a private party across the street at Safari Joe's H2O water park that somehow escalated.

"They found that this was actually a rolling gun battle. The shooting victim that we had there at the scene and the car he was in and another car got into a gun fight rolling down the street," Bean said.

The shootout is highly unusual for the area.

"These shootings that we've had like this one is going to be really random and probably not involved with any other ones that have happened recently that we know of, but it is. It's something that you just don't see a whole lot of times in midtown," Bean said.

The man who was shot is in the hospital and is said to be in stable condition. TPD detectives and the department's gun crimes unit are investigating the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
