Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's edition of StudioTulsa, we get to know Bruce Plante, the editorial cartoonist for The Tulsa World. Plante started working at the World about two years ago --- and he'll offer a sort of "humorous cartoonist in action" presentation tomorrow night (the 17th) at Philbrook as a part of that museum's ongoing Third Thursday series. (Before coming to Tulsa, Plante had been with a newspaper in Tennessee for some two decades --- and his syndicated drawings appear in up to 80 papers daily.) As he tells our host Rich Fisher, his job as a political cartoonist basically comes down to three goals: to render an informed opinion on a given topic, to get a reaction from his audience, and to always tell a story (or make a point) in short-hand --- that is, succinctly. Also on our show, commentator Ian Shoales has some thoughts on the whole "cinematic prequel" trend coming out of Hollywood lately.
