StudioTulsa on Health: A Chat with Dr. Jennifer Hays-Grudo

Aired on Thursday, March 14th.

On this edition of StudioTulsa on Health, our guest host Dr. John Henning Schumann speaks with one of his esteemed medical colleagues, Dr. Jennifer Hays-Grudo, who is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine as well as the George Kaiser Family Foundation Chair in Community Medicine at the OU-Tulsa School of Community Medicine. Dr. Hays-Grudo received both her master's and doctorate in developmental psychology from the University of Houston and her bachelor's in psychology from Texas Tech University. "I'm interested in how people grow and change over time," she says. Dr. Hays-Grudo joined the OU-Tulsa faculty in 2008 to develop and evaluate community-based interventions to improve health and reduce health disparities. On our program, she reflects on some of the research-related highlights of her career thus far, including her pioneering work (from about 1994 to 2007) on the Women's Health Initiative, the largest study ever funded by the NIH to improve the health of women. She also talks about her work as a principal investigator for the Tulsa Children's Project, which is aimed at increasing the long-term educational and economic achievement of young children living in poverty in our area.
