American Theatre Company Presents a Musical about Trying to Create a Musical: "[title of show]"

Aired on Tuesday, March 11th.

On this edition of StudioTulsa, we welcome Hunter Bell and Jana Ellis, who are both involved with "[title of show]," the Tony-nominated one-act musical that is currently being staged at the Tulsa PAC by the locally-based American Theatre Company. (To learn more about ATC's production of "[title of show]," including show times and ticket details, please see this page from the PAC's website.) This very popular and tuneful meta-play chronicles its own creation as an entry in the New York Musical Theatre Festival. Bell wrote the book for this show, and starred (as "himself") in the original production, which debuted in 2004, appeared off-Broadway in 2006, and was then staged on Broadway in 2008. He also attended college in St. Louis with Ellis, who teaches drama at a high school in Broken Arrow and is directing ATC's production of "[title of show]," which continues its run through Saturday the 15th.

Rich Fisher passed through KWGS about thirty years ago, and just never left. Today, he is the general manager of Public Radio Tulsa, and the host of KWGS’s public affairs program, StudioTulsa, which celebrated its twentieth anniversary in August 2012 . As host of StudioTulsa, Rich has conducted roughly four thousand long-form interviews with local, national, and international figures in the arts, humanities, sciences, and government. Very few interviews have gone smoothly. Despite this, he has been honored for his work by several organizations including the Governor's Arts Award for Media by the State Arts Council, a Harwelden Award from the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa, and was named one of the “99 Great Things About Oklahoma” in 2000 by Oklahoma Today magazine.
