Applications may open up as soon as next Friday for $2.25 million in arts funding Tulsa voters approved in the 2016 Vision package.
The Tulsa Arts Commission will award $150,000 a year for 15 years. Things will have to be a little different to start, however, given the COVID-19 pandemic. An in-person workshop for applicants used to be part of the plans.
"And that is one thing that we trimmed from the process. We’ll do some kind of an online video and access to documents since we can’t hold workshops," said arts commission member Holly Becker.
The first round of artists selected will get more time to complete their works than originally planned.
"We did extend the program performance period to two years from one year just because of the current crisis that we’re in to give the organizations an opportunity to think further in the future because right now the immediate future is so questionable," Becker said.
The arts commission has also streamlined its application process so funds can be awarded as quickly as possible, maybe as soon as late June.
Any form of art is eligible for the Vision arts program as long as the artist is sponsored by a nonprofit organization and the work supports economic development.
