Man Dies After OKC Police Shoot Him During Struggle

OKC Police

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A man died after an Oklahoma City police officer shot him during a confrontation, according to authorities.

Police were called to northwest Oklahoma City around 8 p.m. Saturday after residents reported that a man was outside their house in violation of a protective order.

An officer arrived at the scene and began to check the man for weapons when a struggle began, said Capt. Daniel Stewart.

“During the course of the struggle, both the officer and the person involved went to the ground. And during that struggle, the officer discharged his firearm,” Stewart said.

The unidentified man was shot and taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The officer, whose name was not released, was not injured. He has been placed on administrative leave as the investigation into the shooting continues, police said.
