Coronavirus-Related Closures Hit More Green Country School Districts

Wikipedia

Several school districts in northeastern Oklahoma have announced closures due to the coronavirus.

Tahlequah Public Schools closed Monday and Tuesday "out of respect" for a high school teacher with COVID who died of a heart attack.

Vinita High School closed Monday morning and students were sent home after a student tested positive.

Beggs Public Schools has turned to distance learning after several students and employees tested positive for the coronavirus.

Union Public Schools in Tulsa has set up a website to help families keep track of case counts. As of Friday, 13 students and staff had confirmed cases, and 88 were in quarantine.

An entire class at Union’s Darnaby Elementary has been quarantined and moved to distance learning.

"This is a great reminder to parents, teachers, staff and students that we need to continue to be vigilant in monitoring for Covid-like symptoms," Union Superintendent Dr. Kirt Hartzler said in a statement. "Students need to be kept home if they have a fever or other symptoms, or if anyone in their household has had a possible exposure to COVID-19 or is being tested. That’s the only way we can keep students safe and continue with in-person learning.

"Everyone needs to continue to mask up, follow physical distancing guidelines, and wash hands frequently."
