On this edition of StudioTulsa, we are pleased to speak with Dr. Geoffrey Orsak, who begins his tenure as TU's 18th president. Dr. Orsak was formerly Dean of the Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University (SMU). He earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Rice University, and he's widely seen as one of the nation's outstanding leaders in engineering research and education. In recently announcing Dr. Orsak's presidential appointment, Duane Wilson of the TU Board of Trustees noted: "Dr. Orsak shares our vision for the next stage in the advancement of The University of Tulsa. His strategic insight and proven leadership will be tremendous assets, helping to drive TU to new levels of national distinction." Dr. Orsak joins us on ST to share not only his goals for TU's immediate (and long-range) future but also his own academic background --- as well as his broader philosophy regarding the purpose and scope of higher education in America today. (You can read more about Dr. Orsak, and about his appointment as TU's new president, here.)
