G.T. Bynum, Tulsa City Councilor for District 9, on the Proposed Capital Improvement Project

City of Tulsa

The Tulsa City Council is now moving forward on a $919 million capital improvement project that would continue this community's Fix Our Streets sales tax and property taxes for an additional 5 to 5.5 years in order to fund continued street construction, rehabilitation and widening projects, and a number of other capital improvement projects. Capital improvement, you ask? Well, it's not money for more police officers or more fire-fighters, as our guest notes today, but more money for the cars, trucks, and other equipment these city employees need to do their job (as but one example). Our guest on this edition of ST is G.T. Bynum, Tulsa's City Councilor for District 9, who is a dedicated advocate for this proposal. Currently, councilors are scheduling public meetings so as to gather citizen input regarding their "draft capital improvements funding package," with a vote to come next month by the City Council on whether to submit this package to Tulsa voters in the fall. The next such public meeting will occur tomorrow night, Tuesday the 30th, at the Garnett Assembly of God Church (at 2930 S. Garnett Road in Tulsa) at 6:15pm. (You can get more information on these meetings at this link from the City of Tulsa's website.)
