On this edition of StudioTulsa, we speak with political scientist and sociologist Theda Skocpol, whose recent work has focused on how political policy is made, and more often these days, how it gets derailed. Skocpol is the Victor Thomas Professor of Government and Sociology at Harvard University, and the author of numerous books on how political policy has been shaped and changed throughout history. Her books include "States and Social Revolutions," "Diminished Democracy," "Protecting Soldiers and Mothers," and most recently, "The Tea Party and the Remaking of Republican Conservatism." Skocpol has lately been examining current policy initiatives and their opposition, from healthcare reform to climate change "cap and trade" legislation. She'll address the failure of "cap and trade" in her lecture, "Naming the Problem: Extremism and the Fight Against Global Warming," which takes place this evening (Wednesday the 7th) at 7pm at the Allen Chapman Activity Center on the campus of The University of Tulsa.
