On this edition of our program, we speak with Jeff Martin, the creator and host of Book Smart Tulsa, the popular reading series here in our city that's now celebrating its fifth anniversary. Book Smart is marking the occasion with three different events this week, on Tuesday the 11th, Thursday the 13th, and Friday the 14th. (And you can learn all about these events at the Book Smart Tulsa website.) As Martin tells guest host Scott Gregory, Book Smart actually began (back in 2009) as a monthly (and rather beer-driven) book-discussion club --- only later did it emerge as the wide-ranging, free-to-the-public "visiting author series" that it thrives as today. And "thrives" is really the proper term here; it's not uncommon for Book Smart Tulsa to host four or five readings in a single month at various venues in this community. Martin also talks about how and why he initiated this series, and he looks back on a few standout moments (for better or worse) from Book Smart's history thus far.
