"Red," the Tony Award-Winning Play about Artist Mark Rothko, Will Be Staged Soon at the Tulsa PAC
On this installment of ST, we learn about "Red," an award-winning play about the Abstract Expressionist artist Mark Rothko that will soon be presented at the Williams Theater in the Tulsa PAC by the locally-based American Theatre Company. Our guest is Lisa Wilson, who is directing this production. "Red" will run from May 9th from the 16th, and per the Tulsa PAC's website, regarding the plot of this drama: "Mark Rothko (Joseph Gomez) has just landed the biggest commission in the history of modern art, a series of murals for New York’s famed Four Seasons Restaurant. In the two fascinating years that follow, Rothko works feverishly with his young assistant, Ken, in his studio on the Bowery. But when Ken gains the confidence to challenge him, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing. Raw and provocative, John Logan's 'Red' is a searing portrait of an artist's ambition and vulnerability as he tries to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting." Also on our show, commentator Connie Cronley is wondering about the gifts we give to those we care about...and about why we give such gifts in the first place.
