Cincinnati at Tulsa Called off Again over Bearcats' COVID Cases

University of Tulsa Football

No. 18 Tulsa won’t get a shot at No. 7 Cincinnati at home ahead of the American Athletic Conference championship.

This Saturday's game at Tulsa has been canceled because of positive COVID tests at Cincinnati. Tulsa coach Philip Montgomery said it’s a letdown.

"Two ranked teams playing at home in Tulsa. You know it’s going to be a big televised game. We get to highlight our university, our program, our city, all of that. You know, you lose that opportunity, that’s tough. That’s disheartening, I guess," Montgomery said Tuesday during a virtual news conference.

Montgomery said one of the truly disappointing things about losing this week’s home game is it was supposed to be senior night.

"Every group of seniors deserves a senior night, and for us not to have the opportunity to do that, that’s tough. We’re going to figure out a way to have some type of senior night for our guys. They deserve every bit of that," Montgomery said.

Tulsa and Cincinnati are undefeated in conference play. Cincinnati will host the AAC championship Dec. 19 because it is the higher-ranked team.

Tulsa has had eight games affected by COVID-19 this season, two of them with Cincinnati. The Golden Hurricane was originally slated to play the Bearcats Oct. 17, but Cincinnati had positive cases then, too, and the game was rescheduled to Dec. 12.

All of Tulsa’s postponed or canceled games have been due to cases on the opposing team.

Also this week, a TU women’s basketball game Wednesday night at Saint Louis  was canceled because of cases on Saint Louis. Cases on the Tulsa men’s team prompted postponement of basketball games against Arkansas and ORU.
