TPS Superintendent Granted Two-Year Contract Extension By Board

File photo

Following a marathon special virtual meeting of the Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education that started on Tuesday and ended early Wednesday, members voted to extend Superintendent Deborah Gist's contract for two years.

The Tulsa World reports that Shawna Keller, the board's president, said it was important to have consistent leadership for the school district as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Gist's contract will now expire in 2023 rather than next year.

TPS board members are in the process of considering how to structure the schedule for the coming school year in the face of uncertainties around the novel coronavirus crisis. A special meeting has been called for that matter for Monday, June 29.
