Oklahoma State Department Of Health Investigating Allegation Trans Woman Denied COVID Vaccine

Logan County Health Department

The Oklahoma State Department of Health said Thursday it was investigating an alleged incident in Logan County where a trans woman was denied a COVID-19 vaccine.

Advocacy group Freedom Oklahoma tweeted, "Hey [OSDH] why is Logan Co Health Department turning away a trans woman trying to get a vaccine and telling us to take it up with the state?"

In a response, the department said, "We are aware of the situation and working closely with Logan County Health Dept and Freedom Oklahoma to rectify it immediately. It is a top priority to ensure equity in our state's public health system, including ensuring every Oklahoman has access to the COVID-19 vaccine."

In a later statement, the department said a "mismatched ID" was involved in the incident, which it said the Logan County Health Department "handled poorly."

"While we are acting swiftly to better understand the details and address this appropriately, we believe this to be an isolated incident," OSDH said.

Reached by email, Freedom Oklahoma executive director Allie Shinn said "[OSDH] handled this quickly and appropriately" and declined further comment.
