"Lifelines: A Doctor's Journey in the Fight for Public Health"

Aired on Monday, September 20th.

Our guest is the noted medical expert, Dr. Leana Wen, a visiting professor at George Washington University's School of Public Health and a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. She's also a contributing columnist for The Washington Post and a CNN medical analyst, and she was named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People. She joins us to discuss her new memoir, "Lifelines," which traces her engaging journey from being a struggling young Chinese immigrant in Los Angeles to one of the nation's leading advocates for public health and its role in our lives -- from opioid addiction to the current pandemic. As was noted of this volume by Publishers Weekly: "A stirring call for greater investment in public health programs to combat racism, poverty, gun violence, and other social ills.... Readers will be inspired by Wen's belief in the power of public health to make America better."

Rich Fisher passed through KWGS about thirty years ago, and just never left. Today, he is the general manager of Public Radio Tulsa, and the host of KWGS’s public affairs program, StudioTulsa, which celebrated its twentieth anniversary in August 2012 . As host of StudioTulsa, Rich has conducted roughly four thousand long-form interviews with local, national, and international figures in the arts, humanities, sciences, and government. Very few interviews have gone smoothly. Despite this, he has been honored for his work by several organizations including the Governor's Arts Award for Media by the State Arts Council, a Harwelden Award from the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa, and was named one of the “99 Great Things About Oklahoma” in 2000 by Oklahoma Today magazine.
