News and Notes Regarding the Forthcoming Expansion of Gilcrease Museum

Gilcrease Museum
Aired on Thursday, January 31st.

Our guest is Susan Neal, the executive director of Gilcrease Museum here in Tulsa. It was recently announced that Gilcrease is now gathering applications from architectural firms seeking to execute the renovation, redesign, and expansion of the museum. (Tulsa voters, some time ago, approved $65 million for this expansion through the Vision Tulsa sales tax renewal -- plus there was a $10 million dollar private donation to the University of Tulsa, which operates Gilcrease, which has set the total budget at $75 million.) Neal tells us that the upcoming expansion will ultimately make for a more visitor-friendly museum -- one that's easier to navigate, that is more engaging and versatile as a space, and that has far more of the massive Gilcrease collection on display.

Rich Fisher passed through KWGS about thirty years ago, and just never left. Today, he is the general manager of Public Radio Tulsa, and the host of KWGS’s public affairs program, StudioTulsa, which celebrated its twentieth anniversary in August 2012 . As host of StudioTulsa, Rich has conducted roughly four thousand long-form interviews with local, national, and international figures in the arts, humanities, sciences, and government. Very few interviews have gone smoothly. Despite this, he has been honored for his work by several organizations including the Governor's Arts Award for Media by the State Arts Council, a Harwelden Award from the Arts & Humanities Council of Tulsa, and was named one of the “99 Great Things About Oklahoma” in 2000 by Oklahoma Today magazine.
